How do these B vitamins support health?
The members of the B family of vitamins work collectively to metabolize fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. They are each singularly responsible for many important physiological processes concerned with physical and mental health and well-being. For example, thiamine (vitamin B1), helps break down carbohydrates into simple sugar (glucose), which the body then oxidizes to produce energy for all the cells. Thiamine also supports muscle function, and is required for heart function. Niacin and its derivative nicotinamide are dietary precursors of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), which can be phosphorylated, resulting in NAD phosphate (NADP), and reduced, resulting in NAD hydrogen (NADH) or NAD phosphate hydrogen (NADPH). Over 400 enzymes in the body require NAD and NADP, mainly to accept or donate electrons for oxidation-reduction (redox) reactions during the breakdown of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Pyridoxine (vitamin B6) performs many important regulatory tasks inside the body, but a key responsibility is to break down and synthesize amino acids. Vitamin B6 also supports the synthesis of neurotransmitters and hemoglobin.*

Cataplex B contains thiamine, niacin and vitamin B6. Both niacin and vitamin B6play essential roles in nervous system function. Vitamin B6 is involved in the synthesis of many neurotransmitters, including serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. Thiamine is necessary for proper nerve function and is found in brain cell membranes. The B vitamins are an important factor in maintaining the health of nerves.*
